Sigiriya-Dambulla Day Tour

The Lion Rock and the cave temples, back to back in a single day.

1 Day1–8 travellers

About This Tour

Sigiriya and Dambulla sit close enough together that they're almost always paired, and it's the single most popular day out in the Cultural Triangle for good reason. Sigiriya, the 5th-century rock fortress with frescoes, water gardens and a summit palace, is a genuine climb, so we go early, before the heat and the tour groups. Dambulla's cave temple complex, carved into a granite outcrop and painted continuously since the 1st century BC, makes for a cooler, calmer afternoon.

Highlights

  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • The Sigiriya frescoes and the mirror wall
  • Panoramic summit views over the surrounding jungle
  • Dambulla's five cave temples with over 150 Buddha statues
  • Early climb timing to beat both the heat and the crowds
