About This Tour
Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka's capital in the 11th and 12th centuries, and unlike the older city of Anuradhapura, its monuments survive largely intact: a compact, walkable (or cyclable) archaeological park rather than scattered ruins. The Gal Vihara rock-cut Buddha statues alone are worth the trip. We drive out from the Sigiriya/Habarana/Dambulla area, and the site's flat layout makes it comfortable to explore even in the midday heat.

Priyamali Gedara Road

Statue of Parakramabahu I

Deepa Uyana
